Hello, I am new to this, but I am planning on having a 10K/5K/Fun Run in Dubuque.



I am contacting you to see if you would be interested in providing me some information on how to go about putting on a race.



My goal is to raise money for the Mines of Spain Expansion Project.



At this time I am planning on hosting the entire event in the Mines of Spain.



I mapped out 10K which would be starting in the Mines of Spain at the Catfish Creek Bridge and running south to the end of Old Massey Road then turn around and finish at the Catfish Creek Bridge.



In light of the Mines of Spain, I thought the name: “Get the Lead Out” Run would be appropriate.



I am in the very early stages of planning this – I would like to host this in Oct, 2009.



Let me know if this conflicts which anything that you currently have on your calendar. The worst thing that I could do is to have this race on the same weekend as another local race.



Please pass on any information that you think would be helpful to me.

Event Insurance

Timing Equipment

First Aid Tent

Volunteers

Volunteers

Sponsors

Donations (Water, Power Bars, etc)

Vendors (possibly)

Advertise (Gyms, health clubs, internet, paper, etc)

T-Shirts

Waivers

Local Business support (coupons, specials, etc)





I will also need to work with the Chamber of Commerce to get their blessing, etc.

P.S. I used to run in the G.R.R.R.R in Marquette, Iowa. I think that race no longer exists. If so, I was planning on having this race on that same weekend which I think is the first weekend in October. 2009

Mineral Point, WI has a race on the 4th of July that they call "getting the lead out". Still a good name, and good idea for the Mines of Spain, but just thought you should know there's another "get the lead out" nearby, to avoid any future confusion.

Be aware that the Dbq Jaycees may be planning on holding another "Chili Trot" next October the same weekend as their Chili cook-off. If they are perhaps you could coordinate with them and have a "Best of Both" competition where times from both races could be combined and an overall champ declared...

I love the idea of a race in the Mines of Spain. Have you given any thought to making it a trail race? There aren't any trail races anywhere nearby to my knowledge. (Please don't anybody try to argue that running on the Heritage Trail qualifies as "trail running." I'm talking about rocks/roots/hills/water crossings etc.)

I'd be hesitant of using a unique moniker like "Get the Lead Out" since there already is a race of that name relatively nearby.
